I'm taking a trip to Las Vegas for Christmas, and will be there from the 23rd - the 26th.
I'm torn between which Cirque show(s) I should go see. I've already seen "O" and "Love."
Since my boyfriend hasn't seen "O," I was considering going to see that and "Mystere." Since I haven't seen the latter, would they be too similar?

Re: Torn!
Fri, August 17, 2007 - 11:41 AMHave you seen "KA"? If not, I would recommend that one over "Mystere." I found "Mystere" to be a bit disappointing, although there were individual acts that were fantastic. It could have been my mood though, I was pretty exhausted at the time of the show.

Fri, August 17, 2007 - 11:58 AM"O" and Mystere is completely different, and there will never be any similar productions in Cirque du Soleil. They each have different stage designs, different outlines of the story, different vocals, different costumes, different ambiances, and different combination of the acts.
I've seen all Cirque shows at least twice, except LOVE in Vegas. Among all Cirque productions in Vegas, I'd recommend "O" and Mystere.
"O" is fabulous without saying.
Mystere is the very first Cirque production in Vegas and it keeps the traditional circus feelings thru the show.
KA, on the other hand, doesn't really impress me. The stage of KA is massive, it'd bore you if you don't have good seats aka $165 seats in center section. A friend of mine went to see KA couple weeks ago, she thought the show was nice, but when I asked what's the best part of the show. She told me that she likes the fireworks which is at the very end of the show and it's only 2 minutes long.
Zumanity, now it's a fun show. It depends on how open you and your boyfriend are since it's a 18+ show. My friends and I always go there tipsy because it makes the show more fun. It's an erotic show. I'm sure you can find some clips on youtube about this show.
Or - you can go to Le Reve at Wynn. It's not a Cirque du Soleil production, but the director directed "O" and Mystere. It's a water show with a circular stage. I heard the new female singer there does an amazing job.
Hope that helps. (: -

That's true.
I have to defend KA though, it's by far my favorite Cirque show (I have seen five, 3 in Vegas and 2 of the touring shows). I loved the story and was on the edge of my seat the whole time. The battle scenes were fantastic, and the double-baton routine, though it is by far the simplest act in the whole production, is probably one of my favorite circus performances I've ever seen, and is definitely my favorite object manipulation performance in any show, Cirque or otherwise. I thought the way they use the vertical stage was very clever, and the whole teepee turning into a flying machine thing was really cool. And the scene when the ship sinks was astoundingly beautiful. Although KA is the most expensive of the Vegas Cirque shows, of the three in Vegas I've seen (O, KA and Mystere), it's the only one that I would pay to see again. I haven't seen LOVE or Zumanity though.
On the other hand, a lot of what I loved about KA had to do more with the set and the performers interactions with it, and the amazing stage pictures. It was directed by Robert LePage, who is well-known for theatrical/operatic spectacles, so I guess that's not much of a surprise. Mystere's acts were really more focused on the prowess of the performers. There's a cube act that's astounding, and the chinese poles and the bungee/trapeze act were highlights for me as well. I guess Mystere felt like a collection of different acts, whereas KA was more of a unified whole, and I liked that about it. In that way Mystere is more of a traditional circus show, whereas KA is more like a theater production with circus elements in it. -

Re: Torn!
Fri, August 17, 2007 - 11:38 PMI will not argue with you about KA. Everyone has different taste and KA just doesn't impress me like other shows did. I've seen many Cirque shows and a lot of them were seen by multiple times (from 4 to 10 times each show), but unfortunately, KA is my least favorite.
Here are links to posts on a forum that people are discussing about what shows to watch in Vegas. A lot of posters there are Cirque lovers and they've seen Cirque shows as many times as they could and they always provide some great reviews/ opinions. It's a really informative website. Ashley can read the reviews and decide. :-)

By the way, KA is not the most expensive of the Vegas Cirque show. Both "O" and KA share the same pricing structure while "O" always hits at least 99% attendance rate while KA has only 70-80% (lower than Mystere as well.) -

Re: Torn!
Sat, August 18, 2007 - 9:14 AMThank you SO much everyone! I think I've decided on "O" for the 23rd (if not only for conviniece sake - it's just downstairs in the hotel we'll be staying at) and Mystere the following evening.
From what I looked at of Zumanity, it just didn't look terribly impressive. Yes, erotica is marvelous in its own right, but (unless I was a tad tipsy) don't think I would enjoy it nearly as much.
